Shooting Schedule/Shot List

Activity: Film my Grandad on the couch with newspapers, giving the sense he is a man who likes to read.

Documents Needed: Send a email to Grandad about the questions, so he has an idea of what to say and feels comfortable of whats coming.

Date & Location: 6th October, Cousin's House, Afternoon.

Equipment: Tripod, Mic and Camera (Maybe two) 

Activity: Look for old pictures of the couple, see if they have a photo book.

Activity: Film my Grandma on a chair, with a book and a cup of tea. 

Documents Needed: An email or a small script of what to say, to feel comfortable of the questions and to know what to reply with.

Date & Location: 8th October, Cousin's house, Afternoon

Equipment: Two cameras, tripod and mic

Activity: Interview Mum and perhaps Uncle to hear their views of the story

Documents Needed: A small script of what I might be asking them, so they get the idea of what to reply with.


First shot will be a mid shot of a photo book, slowly zooming into an individual photograph.

The difference between story and narrative is how the plot is told. The story itself is what it is about as a whole thing, the narrative however, is the multiple ways of telling the story.

 A 3 act narrative is a simple beginning, middle and end structure. For 

**The act classic Hollywood structure is the structure of the film; it starts with the exposition, which means introducing the key characters of the film and the landscapes, the start of the plot. The development then occurs, which gives the audience a more in depth of the characters and locations, this involves mostly character development and when the plot thickens. Then it is the complication, the turn around, what stops the characters on their tracks and makes a problem for their goal in the film. After that, its the climax, this is when the problem is solved, an outcome of what the characters did to overcome the problem they faced. Finally, its the resolution, the conclusion and (hopefully) a happy ending, the characters have solved their problems and have nothing else to worry about.  

A linear narrative is when the plot is told in a simple measure, following the characters from start to finish which hardly any complications in the way. An example of this would be The Avengers(Joss Wheadon 2012), it introduces the main characters, plot thickens, making all the main characters to work together to solve the problem and then a happy ending.

 However, non-linear is when the plot is explained in a different way. Instead of start to finish it could start with a simple from finish to start, or even middle, finish and start, either way, it is a non-linear plot. For example, the film Pulp Fiction* (Quentin Tarantino 1995) the plot is told through different narratives and in different orders in time.

Of course, the film follows the five act structure however, the scenes are mixed in a non-linear way.  The Exposition, where it introducers the characters Hunny Bunny and Pumpkin and then Vincent and Jules, at this point of time in the film, at this point you only know a little about the films plot. The Development is then introduced with more characters, such as Mia. During the beginning of the chapter, you get to know a bit more about Vincent, as you find out he takes drugs and is quite a softie when it comes to talking to woman. Next is the complication, where Mia has a drug overdose which turns the tables around, making Vincent panic with fright. He takes Mia to his friends house. When the climax kicks in, Mia is saved from harm by a adrenaline shot, Vincent is no longer worried and the problem is solved. The Resolution however, is not a happy ending, Vincent is shot dead in a bathroom by a character named Butch and is left there, this of course is the end of the line for Vincent.

Working title of your project:

Log line:

A story about how my grandma and grandad met for the first time at a valentines dance.

Synopsis:

A love story about how a couple met at a valentines school dance.

A lot of people said it was 'cute' and 'interesting', some said not a lot of documentaries tell the story of how two real people met and what they went through to stay together so it will be interesting to watch and learn how they stayed together.

The Six Ideas For A Documentary

Idea 1: The Enfield Poltergeist 

I would go into deep research of the events of the paranormal activities at a council house in the 70's, I would gather pictures and audio to show the information that was given. I would give out quotes and say people's views upon the events. Through research, I would find audio files and perhaps even found footage to go in more depth of the story and narrative. 



Idea 2: Robin Hood: Myth or Legend?


This documentary would be about the famous idol Robin Hood, the main purpose to gain evidence and to see if the man is either known simply a myth or a legend. To gain information about this man is through talking to experts and research through 1500s. I would dive through the depths of the fiction and the non fiction, especially the books and take notice of the differences. 



Idea 3: Moving from London to Cambridge

Making this documentary I would set a camera to film myself and to talk about moving from London to Cambridge, durng edits, I would add images and videos which were taken from London when I was a child and here in Cambridge to see the development of my growth and how the setting has changed me and my family. This short film will be personal and will be mostly be about the changes I have been through when moving the the things I had to get over during that stage.



Idea 4: Cosplay 

In this documentary, it would be me and my friends going to a cosplay convention, I would film our journey to London, catching small conversations between ourselves and videoing highlights. When there, I would interview cosplayers and interview them. Asking what inspired them to cosplay the character they are dressed as and why they love it, it is a interesting concept and it will be fun for us and for the audience to watch and to see the journey there and back. 



Idea 5: A Reunion

When it comes to making documentary, It would be shot all on hand held, as the main idea of this will be meeting friends in London I haven't seen in a while and asking questions and catching up. It'll go down into a personal level and will share the happiness and even the sadness from the old times. I would film the journey there and the meet up, filming also conversations between each other and even discussing personal matters.



Idea 6: The Dance

My last idea, I would interview my two grandparents of how they met. I would show archive pictures and videos from the time they met and during the years when they were together when they were young and ask what kept them together and how their relationship made a massive impact around them. 

   

Super Size Me (Morgan Spurlock 2004)

Super Size Me is about a director called Morgan Spurlock who takes on the task to have McDonalds for 30 days to take a look at the effects of eating fast food. 

 How the film starts is by pre school children all singing the pizza hut song, instantly showing that children are a important role in this film. The narrative is from Morgan himself, he speaks clearly, giving out facts and explaining the story. At the beginning, statistics are shown and Morgan explains them clearly, during this, you get the sense of character he is. Then it goes through the eyes of a hand held camera, following Morgan around and him talking to the camera. He at the start of the task is very excited and ready to do it, after day three he was positive he could do the task. However, his character changes as he becomes depressed through the days and gets mild mood swings because of the food. He even becomes obsessed of the food, which helps overcome the depression. In some interviews, it goes down to a personal level when it comes to his girl friend talking about their sex life, this gives the narrative through her eyes and her opinion, not the forget the three doctors he had visited for blood tests and weight, they all were surprised by the results over a couple of weeks and wanted to him stop.

 The editing is slick and quick, showing paintings that show people's views on the fast food propaganda when there is a small break. Music is played throughout the film, having upbeat tune, nothing too cinematic, just a clear view of whats going on. During the fact scenes though, strong editing is used for the bar charts and animations, giving a clear view of the results. 

 Moreover, they have interviews with local people and kids to show the effects of fast food, for example, they asked people what a calorie was and a majority of them didn't know what it was. Another was they interviewed children and showed them pictures of iconic idols such as the presidents of america, a number of children didn't know who these people were but knew the characters of McDonalds characters on Television straight away, not even a hesitation.
